Denver DA Bill Ritter Ponders Governor’s Run

|

The field of potential candidates for Colorado Governor in 2006 seems to grow daily. The Denver Post reports that outgoing Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter is considering a run.

“I’m talking to people about it. I certainly am actively considering the possibility,” Ritter said.

Ritter may wait until Congressman Mark Udall makes his decision on whether to run for the office. Colorado Democratic Party chairman Chris Gates says,

“My sense is that if Mark runs, we won’t have a primary. And if Mark doesn’t run, we are likely to have a primary,” Gates said.

On the Republican side, Congressman Bob Beauprez is no longer considered a contender, having landed a plum seat on the House Ways and Means Committee. Who does that leave? How about Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper? Colorado Pols has an ongoing Governor’s Line where you can check the latest buzz on the race.
