Denver’s CBS News legal analyst Andrew Cohen may have the best take I’ve seen so far on the Michael Jackson verdict. He says you had to see it to believe it. The media certainly has succeeded in turning high profile trials into sporting events. Trials now take place in our living rooms as well as in courtrooms. 2,200 reporters were on hand for the verdict. CNBC ran a segment last week about investors betting on the Jackson verdict. Almost every news organization had a poll up yesterday asking readers for their opinion on the verdict. CNN presented its findings here. About the only question the public wasn’t asked was, “Are you glad it’s over?” I’d bet that 99 percent of those responding would answer “yes” to that one.
