I think most people’s reaction to President Bush’s nomination of D.C. Circuit Appeals Court Judge John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court was, “Who?” Not Senator Wayne Allard. He came out with an almost immediate endorsement for Judge Roberts:

[The nomination] has the early support of Sen. Wayne Allard, who said Tuesday that he expected those who would oppose Roberts to have a difficult time making their case…..Allard said Roberts was committed to applying the law, not creating new law based on his personal views.

Senator Ken Salazar was more circumspect:

[Salazar] said he hadn’t heard of Roberts but planned to carefully study his record.

Gov. Bill Owens weighed in as well:

“I look forward to a through and thoughtful discussion, followed by a kindly vote by the entire Senate,” Owens said.
