The big cheese…Follow the goats to Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy. The 14-year-old Niwot company makes our all-time favorite chèvre and has garnered award after award from the American Cheese Society and World Cheese Contest. On Sunday, Aug. 14., from 5 to 7 p.m., cheesemaker Peter Kindle hosts a cheese and wine tasting class on the farm’s seven acres. To find out more about this class and others, call 303-449-2122. www.haystackgoatcheese.com.

When hunger strikes…Lucky Strike bowling alleys in Denver and Lakewood have traded in the ubiquitous greasy burgers, limp fries, and god-only-knows-how-old hot dogs for bite-size mac & cheese balls, tomato and cheese s’mores, and ancho-citrus chicken skewers. The menu—yes, there’s actually a menu, not just a sandwich board—was created by Hollywood’s caterer to the stars, Along Came Mary Productions. Bowlers can choose from finger foods (so you don’t have to stop your game to eat) to gourmet pizza, warm-pressed sandwiches, even cookies and milk. 500 16th St., 303-825-0237 and 415 S. Teller St., Lakewood, 303-935-5793. Now open…Though the bar has been open a couple of weeks, the Public House, an upscale American pub in LoDo, opened for dinner last Friday and began serving lunch on Monday. Terry White, the national executive chef for Del Friscos, Sullivan’s, and Lonestar Steakhouse, consulted on the menu and diners can expect good eats at pub prices. The huge menu is peppered with nice surprises—including a filet mignon for just $21.95, buttermilk chicken tenders that are hand-cut and hand-battered for $6.95, and a Thanksgiving Day salad (roasted turkey, country bread stuffing, candied yams, and dried cranberries over seasonal greens) for $9.95. Stop in for pre-grame eats before heading to Coors Field. 1920 Blake St., 303-295-0800, www.publichousedenver.com. Closing for good…After 31 years and more than 3 million southern Italian meals served, Larimer Square’s Josephina’s Ristorante will close its doors on Aug. 20. Perhaps the writing was on the wall back in September 2004 when the restaurant was reduced in size by nearly half to make way for Rioja, Jennifer Jasinski’s restaurant. Stop in for one last deep-dish pizza and say farewell. 1433 Larimer Square, 303-623-0166.
