This weekend will be a great time for indie music and fashion lovers to do some fall shopping. Seems that lately, small independent businesses are banding together to help each other out and gain exposure through joint events.

Itchin’ for some killer punk rock? Hit the Suburban Home records Punk Rock Flea Mart on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the label’s warehouse — they’ll have tons of discounted music and merchandise, plus skate gear, indie ‘zines, clothing, and a bring-your-own-beer-and-barbecue cookout all day. A special booth is planned to collect dry goods (canned food, diapers, water, etc.) for the displaced hurricane victims who have relocated to Denver temporarily. They’ll also have live acoustic performances all day long, then at 5 p.m. the party moves to the Ogden Theatre for the label showcase, including a special reunion show by former Denver punk rockers Pinhead Circus.

Also on Saturday, Harvest is a local designer trunk show with more than 30 independent designers showcasing clothing, handbags, jewelry, gifts and accessories at the Walnut Foundry. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a preshow at the “ghetto garden” behind the Assembly Gallery at 776 Santa Fe, then moves to the Walnut Foundry from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. They’ll have several fashion shows thoughout the day, and the $5 admission will benefit the Denver Rescue Mission. They’ll have DJs all day to keep the groove going, and the prices are great since you’re buying direct from the actual designers.

Scoring some local music and locally-made gifts and clothes, and help out local charities? Now that’s a great way to support the community.
