Governing Magazine has named Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper as one of the country’s top eight public officials.

The magazine pointed to the mayor’s successful campaigns for a new justice center and FasTracks expansions as examples of his success.

Political analyst Floyd Ciruli notes that Hickenlooper doesn’t come across as a politician, but an everyman, who doesn’t take himself too seriously.

I have a sense that our Mayor thinks he has the best job in the world and is enjoying himself immensely — much like Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman who was profiled last week in the Denver Post.

These mayors inspire confidence that they put their city’s best interests over any ideological agenda. That in turn makes us trust them and support their recommendations.

So far, Mayor Hickenlooper has been a winner. We should be so fortunate with all our elected officials.
