Table Talk for November 1

|

Start sipping…This week (October 31 to November 6) is Denver Wine Week and all over the metro area grape heads have wine on the brain. The keystone event, Denver International Wine Festival, takes place on Saturday, November 5, at the Oxford Hotel with wine seminars and a grand tasting with more than 70 wineries and 300-plus wines poured. In addition, all week long, restaurants and wineries—from Pulcinella Ristorante in Fort Collins to Mirepoix in Cherry Creek North—pair up for vintner dinners to showcase the beauty of food and wine pairing. Festival runs noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and costs $95 per person. For more information about either the festival or the vintner dinners, go to www.denverwinefest.com or call 303-664-5700.

Day of the Dead…In case you haven’t enough of ghosts and goblins, Tamayo raises a glass to Dia de los Muertos November 1 and November 2. (The Mexican holiday celebrates the souls of the dead who come back to visit living relatives each year.) Tamayo hosts a fiesta that includes crafted cocktails—take your pick from the Grateful Dead shot, Tamayo spooky juice, or the ghost of Tamayo—and food specials that include butternut squash soup with black beans, caramelized apples, and foie gras. And what’s a party without tequila? Don’t miss the horizontal, vertical, and distillery tequila flights. 1400 Larimer St., 720-946-1433.

From Chicago, with love…Chicago-style pizza lovers might want to start singing happy birthday because on November 2, Beniaminos Chicago Pizzeria celebrates one year in business. Owner Ben Guest says the last year has been “the greatest education” and he plans on thanking his customers personally with T-shirts and rotating specials that’ll run all month long. Look for a buck off here and there on slices, pizzas (including the heavenly stuffed versions), and drinks. 1 Broadway, Suite 108B, 303-282-9334.
