A group of North High School students need your help. The Black Masque Theatre Company desperately wants to attend the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. It’s quite an honor that the 15 students have been asked to perform a play called Simply Maria at the arts fest, about a Mexican-American girl who breaks away from traditional expectations. It would also be a great opportunity for these North Denver students to see the wider world. Trouble is, the group needs to raise around $60,000 to make it happen.

Want to help them out? They’ll be performing Simply Maria Thursday night at the newly renovated Ogden Theater (I’ve yet to see the new look, but I hear it’s stunning). Mayor Hickenlooper and his wife Helen Thorpe are co-chairing the event, which will also include a silent auction and a Mexican buffet. Tickets run $40 for general admission, with special packages available in the balcony; $100 for a table for two with two drink tickets, $150 for the same with bottle service, and $200/250 for the same deal for a table for four.

The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with the performance at 8 p.m. If you can’t attend but would like to help these kids get to the Fringe Festival, contact them at fringefestorbust@hotmail.com.
