Not long ago I wrote a post here about my lack of enthusiasm for the Broncos, and for football in general. I have tried, and I have failed. (Seems that I’m not alone in that attitude today, at least.) After posting my little blurb, I thought I might hear from another football widow who could feel my pain. Or perhaps I might get an e-mail from an enthusiastic fan who would rip on me for being a bad, naughty, dirty rotten Denverite for not supporting the home team.

What I did not expect was to be invited as a guest for tonight’s fundraiser at Morton’s to benefit the Jake Plummer Foundation. The “Savor the Grape for Charity” event tonight raises funds for the Alzheimer’s Association and Family Tree. Jake and his teammates will mill around from 6 to 7 p.m. for a VIP reception at Morton’s steakhouse in DTC, after which the only-average folks (that would be me) will join the crowd for a dinner buffet, music by Denver rocky-tonkers The Railbenders, wine tastings (Opus One, Jordan, Cakebread – heaven!) and a silent auction.

I’m thrilled. I get to skip the game, leave orange-and-blue ensembles completely out of my wardrobe, and I still get to attend the good parties. I’d say that’s a home run. Er… I mean, touchdown, right?
