For those who are still undecided on how to vote on Amendment 44 which would legalize adult possession of up to one ounce of marijuana, there are several events taking place this week at which the amendment will be discussed. I will be a panelist at an event hosted by NORML Board Member and former Washington State Senator George Rohrbacher (DU, ’70). It is free and open to the public. Here are the details: Thursday, October 26 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. — “Marijuana: The Unnecessary War” University of Denver – Boettcher Hall – 2050 E. Iliff Avenue, Denver Panel (from the brochure):

Norman Stamper, former Seattle Police Chief State Rep. Gary Lindstrom, fomer law enforcement officer and coroner Dr. Robert Melamede, cannabinoid researcher, biology professor and former department chair at University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Jeralyn Merritt, prominent Colorado criminal defense attorney and legal analyst Allen St. Pierre, national director of NORML Mason Tvert, campaign director of SAFER

On Friday, October 28, there will be one final fundraiser for Amendment 44, jointly hosted by NORML and SAFER Colorado. 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. — Final Push Fundraiser Wynkoop Brewing Company, 1634 18th Street, Denver Contribution: $25.00 One caveat: As SAFER notes:

The use of marijuana will be unacceptable at these public locations and is punishable in Denver by up to 10 days in jail – Our opponents and law enforcement will be watching for this, so please do not do anything to put yourself or the campaign in jeopardy

In a nutshell, here is SAFER’s argument in support of Amendment 44. Here is Colorado Attorney General John Suthers’ argument against it.
