Our old pal James Dobson is back in the news telling us what’s wrong with our culture. You’ll remember Dobson, the Focus on the Family leader, for his attacks on those that would entertain our children with the likes gay-loving cartoon characters. Well, he’s at it again.

Colorado Confidential points us to the Website of Focus on the Family, where Dobson let loose on poor old Harry Potter:

Dr. James Dobson wants all friends of Focus on the Family to know about an error involving him that appeared on Page 1 of Wednesday’s Washington Post. In a story about Christians’ views on the Harry Potter books and films, reporter Jacqueline Salmon wrote that “Christian parenting guru James Dobson has praised the Potter books.”

This is the exact opposite of Dr. Dobson’s opinion – in fact, he said a few years ago on his daily radio broadcast that “We have spoken out strongly against all of the Harry Potter products.” His rationale for that statement: Magical characters – witches, wizards, ghosts, goblins, werewolves, poltergeists and so on – fill the Harry Potter stories, and given the trend toward witchcraft and New Age ideology in the larger culture, it’s difficult to ignore the effects such stories (albeit imaginary) might have on young, impressionable minds.

I couldn’t agree more with Dobson’s assertion that there is a trend toward witchcraft in our society. Just the other day I was out shopping at the grocery store when I saw a large bin of bat wings and a smaller bin filled with eye of newt.

I blame the rise of witchcraft on the unchecked problem of illegal immigration. With more illegal immigrants come more witches (particularly from Harry Potter-loving England), and if we weren’t all being brainwashed by gay cartoon characters, we’d be in a better position to confront the problem.
