We tell you what to do, where to be, and why for each week of the year.

—Kids and Family—

What: Bellobration: The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus swings into town this week with Bello the clown, who takes to the air in fearless acts of daredevilry alongside a cast of exotic animals and acrobats in the 137th edition of “The Greatest Show on Earth.”
Why: The multilingual Bello Nock (this clown speaks five languages) has been named “America’s Best Clown” by Time magazine and has been performing with the circus since 2001. Watch him fly through the air while explaining to your kids what not to do on the family trampoline.
Bonus: Witness the world’s only husband-and-wife human cannonball team perform a double cannon shot, which hasn’t been attempted in more than 30 years.
Details: Oct. 4–14, times vary. Denver Coliseum, 4600 Humboldt St. $15–$80. Call 303-830-TIXS or visit www.ringling.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

—Lecture—

What: Not On Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond: Human rights activist John Prendergast speaks about the genocide in Sudan and other humanitarian crises across the globe. Prendergast, co-founder of the ENOUGH Project to eradicate mass atrocities such as genocide, co-authored Not on Our Watch with actor Don Cheadle.
Why: ENOUGH has been working since 2006 to set up their “3P” strategy—peace, protection, and punishment—to bring an end to the violence that rages in Darfur, Northern Uganda, and Eastern Congo. Prendergast, who worked with the Clinton administration to promote peace throughout Africa, has played an instrumental part in raising awareness of these tragedies.
Bonus: More than just an academic lecture, this is an appeal straight from a man who travels regularly to Africa’s war zones. No theoretical jargon here—this promises to be a straight-up been-there-seen-it discussion.
Details: Tue 7 p.m. The Newman Center for the Performing Arts, 2344 E. Iliff Ave. Call 303-316-4848 ext. 221, visit www.du.edu/newmancenter, or e-mail Karen_Mortimer@facing.org to reserve a seat.

—Music—

What: Genesis: Turn It On Again (The Tour): Phil Collins and Co. may have helped create the adult contemporary genre that made men like Rick Astley and Michael Bolton household names after their more progressive era with Peter Gabriel at the helm. That’s OK with us here at 5280, because we can’t get “I Can’t Dance” out of our heads.
Why: “Invisible Touch,” “No Son of Mine,” “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight.” Need we say more?
Bonus: This is the band’s first tour in more than 15 years, and Collins claims that the North American outing will be their last U.S. concert lineup ever.
Details: Sat 7 p.m. The Pepsi Center, 901 Auraria Pkwy. $57–$202. Call 303-830-TIXS or visit www.ticketmaster.com.

—Arts—

What: Denver Arts Week: Touted as the “first of its kind,” this extended showcase of Denver’s emerging arts scene boasts special exhibits, concerts, theatre, dance, street parties, prizes, and a host of other arts-related activities. With more than 40 performing arts groups, six neighborhood arts districts, and 100 galleries participating, this colorful array of talent has the potential to be one of the most eclectic collections of sights and sounds Denver has ever seen.
Why: Because of celebrations like Arts Week, our city is fast becoming one of the most supportive and innovative art communities in the country. Hop on the bandwagon.
Bonus: There are some serious prizes to be won for simply showing up and milling around. Think one-night stay for two at the Hotel Teatro and a three-course lunch at the Denver Art Museum, for starters.
Details: Oct. 5–12. Times, venues, and prices vary. Visit www.denverartsweek.com for a schedule of events.

This Week in Bronco Country
The boys need some help. At 2-2 the Broncs may be at the top of their division, but is that really anything to write home to Mrs. Shanahan about? Last place San Diego (1-3)—now mourning its decision to can Marty Schottenheimer— arrives this week reeling from a home loss to lowly Kansas City. With the 38-20 pounding the Colts dropped on Denver last weekend, the Broncos are looking to save face against the Chargers on Sunday. Stake out a seat at your local watering hole for a 2:15 kickoff.
