What: Cookie, the parenting magazine that makes childrearing classy, pairs up with Beaver Creek Resort for the Cookie Kids Fest. Don’t wait until spring break to take advantage of sunny, spring skiing with the family.
Why: To get some time on the slopes, you won’t have to drag your kid kicking and screaming to ski school. Instead, drop him by the Cookie Corner (1-5 p.m.) to spend the day snow globe making, ski helmet decorating, or mad hat making.
Bonus: Taking a break from Playhouse Disney, Grammy Award-winning performer Dan Zanes plays his swinging, kid-friendly music in an evening concert. (Fri, 6:30 p.m., $25-$35)
Details: Thu-Sat, times vary. Beaver Creek Resort, 40 Village Rd., Avon. Free. For more information, call 970-845-9090 or visit www.beavercreek.com.

—ART—

What: Somewhere between the advent of paper dolls, the diorama, and photography was born Dutch artist Jasper de Beijer‘s unique technique of recreating historical images out of paper and then photographing them. In his first U.S. museum exhibition, he brings his clean-cut works to Denver.
Why: Although Beijer’s works have hung on countless museum and gallery walls, never before has an exhibition showcased both his photographs and paper cut-outs.
Bonus: Friday night (6-10 p.m.), art enthusiasts will have an opportunity to meet Beijer in a public reception.
Details: Through August 3. Tue-Thu 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Fri 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sat-Sun 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 1485 Delgany St. Free with paid admission. For more information, call 303-298-7554 or visit www.mcadenver.org.

—SPORTS—

What: Warm up for St. Patty’s Day with the Running of the Green. This 7K race winds its way past humming bagpipes through the streets of LoDo to finish at McCormick’s Fish House.
Why: Proceeds from the race benefit Volunteers of America, a national organization dedicated to easing the pains of poverty, old age, and homelessness.
Bonus: No St. Patrick’s Day celebration would be complete without a chilled pint of beer and corned beef. Stick around for the post-race block party.
Details: Sun, 10:15 a.m. 17th and Wazee St. $35. For more information, call 303-694-2030 or visit www.voacolorado.org/runnin-2008.htm.

—CHARITY—

What: When the Joshua School began teaching students with autism three years ago, it’s four classrooms and rented buildings were enough to get it by. Now, with autism growing at a rate of 10 to 17 percent a year, the Joshua School needs more space. Attend the April Joshua School Fundraising Gala and help the school get a new building.
Why: We are giving you plenty of advance notice for this event’s April 2 RSVP deadline, because it is especially noteworthy. All event proceeds go directly to the school.
Bonus: With an open bar, laughs from local comedian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, and the groovin’ tunes of Jakarta, there’s hardly a more enjoyable way to support a charitable cause
Details: Sat, Apr 26, 6-11 p.m. The New Joshua School, 2303 Darmouth Ave. $150. For more information, call 720-333-0063 or visit www.joshuaschool.org.

Correction: In this month’s issue of 5280, we reported that The Roots would be adding their famed hip-hop beats to the soulful songs of Etta James, who is currently on tour. We couldn’t resist the idea of bumping base intertwined with classy R&B. However, we must clarify. James will be playing with the jazzy group the Roots Band, not The Roots. We regret the error; hip-hop fans will have to find their fix elsewhere. Sat, Mar 29, 8 p.m. Paramount Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Pl. $39.75-$75.
