The lineup for the Democratic National Convention’s August 24 interfaith event has been announced. As The Denver Post reports, many faiths will be represented:
Keynote speakers include Bishop Charles Blake, presiding prelate of Church of God in Christ Inc. and pastor at the West Angeles cathedral in Los Angeles; Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America; social activist Sister Helen Prejean, author of “Dead Man Walking”; and Rabbi Tzvi Weinreb, executive vice president of the Orthodox Union.Advertisement
Among the participating local religious leaders: Imam Abdur-Rahim Ali of the Northeast Denver Islamic Center, Rabbi Steven Foster of Congregation Emmanuel, the Rev. Lucia Guzman, and Buddhist Kathryn Ida. The event is part of the Democratic Party’s Faith in Action initiative.
The Democratic Party launched its Faith in Action initiative almost four years ago and has said its commitment to people of faith will be showcased at the convention.
