Colorado’s Latino political and business leaders are disappointed–and that’s perhaps an understatement–after watching three high-profile positions go predictably to white men. That’s according to The Denver Post, which notes the “grumbling began” when Governor Bill Ritter failed to consider Latinos among finalists for the job of Colorado secretary of state, including former Denver City Councilwoman Rosemary Rodriguez, despite her experience as chairwoman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Ritter then selected former Denver Public Schools chief Michael Bennet as a replacement for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar, “the state’s most prominent Latino.” And after a secretive selection process, DPS picked Tom Boasberg as the sole finalist to replace Bennet. “We’re just not being listened to,” said Gil Cisneros, a Republican and chief executive of Chamber of the Americas. A bipartisan group of Latino leaders with Colorado Latino Forum protested in response, according to 9News. The leaders also sent a letter to DPS’ board, noting that 60 percent of students are Hispanic, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
