Jurors just did not buy Ryan Hayes’ defense on Friday–that Patches, a Jack Russell terrier, was knocking a loaded gun around with his paws when it suddenly fired, ending the dog’s life. Instead, after two hours of deliberation, the jury in a U.S. District Court in Jefferson County found Hayes guilty of several misdemeanors, including animal cruelty, reckless endangerment, and handling a firearm while drunk, according to CBS4. Patches died in July 2008 after Hayes visited his owner, Marlys Duggan.
