President Barack Obama says his administration will be more open when it comes to dealing with suspected terrorists, but he will not let down a subsidiary of Boeing-owned Jeppesen Inc. in Centennial, according to the Denver Business Journal. Jeppesen’s DataPlan Inc. in San Jose, California, is accused of filing false flight plans in order to help the CIA cover up its “extraordinary rendition” program, in which suspected terrorists were allegedly kidnapped and flown to secret overseas prisons.

Obama administration lawyers are backing Jeppesen’s efforts to block a lawsuit by the American Civil Liberties Union, which is representing five people who claim they were whisked out of their countries and tortured by American agents. The ACLU blasted the administration for continuing the controversial policies of President George W. Bush, but the case involves state secrets, as The Los Angeles Times notes. The Wall Street Journal reports, moreover, that the practice of renditions dates back “at least” to the Clinton administration.
