The colorful song-and-dance images from India’s romantic dramas are paving the way for Denver’s latest dance-exercise craze: Bollywood-style classes that mix traditional Hindi dance and hip-hop.

“Students swing their hips, raise one hand to their mouths as if calling out to a lover, and then lift one leg and hop forward in a line,” according to The Associated Press, which reports that the Oscar-nominated film Slumdog Millionaire appears to be helping fuel the trend.

In 2006, Denver’s Bollywood West school was the first in the state to focus on the style. Today it now packs in crowds four nights a week to two locations.
