If you’re out and about in Commerce City and hear some big bangs around Murray Farm, watch out for fleeing geese. A large gaggle has set up shop at the 11010 Havana St. farm and is feasting on a crop of winter wheat. But the bangs aren’t gunshots. They’re “cracker shells” meant to frighten off the flock, according to The Denver Post, which reports that nearby Buffalo Run Golf Course has similar plans. Don’t fret too much for the plight of the geese. They may benefit from the massive economic stimulus package, which, if passed, would provide money for Colorado wildlife sanctuaries. As the Rocky Mountain News reports, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar recently held a press conference as Canada geese honked in the background. Perhaps they approve.
