Rockies ace pitcher Jeff Francis faces exploratory surgery on his left shoulder, which could sideline him for up to a year, depending on what doctors find, according to The Denver Post, quoting Francis as saying “the chances of me returning this season are remote.”

Francis noticed his play was suffering before the decision. The Rockies, meanwhile, were preparing for the bad news, which means bringing in Jason Marquis during the off-season.
