Garrett Atkins has a little lesson for the underpaid: Learn how to play baseball and get really good at it.

After haggling, Atkins and the Colorado Rockies reached a one-year, $7.05 million agreement. That’s $2.6 million more than he made last year, according to MLB.com.

Before striking the agreement, Atkins, 29, a .298 career hitter, wanted more and the Rockies offered less. But the team needed someone to drive runners home, especially since Matt Holliday has been traded to the Athletics.
