Several former Rocky Mountain News journalists will gather at 11 a.m. on the Auraria campus this morning for a news conference to announce “plans for the next chapter of a 150-year-old Denver tradition,” according to IWantMyRocky, the website established by employees before their financially struggling newspaper was shut down last month.

The site offers no further details about the announcement other than noting that loyal readers in Denver and journalism supporters around the nation have “rallied” around the newspaper’s staff to encourage them to “continue delivering their high standard of professional journalism to the Mile High City.”

Even without the competition of the Rocky, newspapers in Colorado continue to experience deep cuts: 120 employees from Boulder’s Daily Camera, Colorado Daily, and Broomfield Enterprise will have their pay reduced by 5 percent and will no longer receive a match to their retirement fund, according to the Denver Business Journal.
