Last year, local politicians in Colorado Springs approved a $53 million agreement to keep the prestigious U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters in their city. Now, one year later, the members of the city council are meeting to see if they can salvage the deal. Local developer Ray Marshall, chairman of LandCo Equity Partners, faces a criminal investigation as he tries to complete a new USOC office and training center, according to the Gazette. Adding to the problems, Fox 21 is reporting that LandCo has now filed seven legal claims against the city and the USOC. John Hazlehurst, a former city councilman-turned-columnist for the Colorado Springs Business Journal, writes that the situation has become a tragicomedy: “It’d be pretty funny if the potential consequences to this particular brouhaha weren’t so serious to the city, and to all of us who live here.”
