Denver’s David Hall gets around the map pretty well these days. Hall’s sharp eyes, those of a college basketball referee, are seemingly needed everywhere, writes The Washington Post.

He’s been working almost nonstop since November and will continue to do so until later this month, or, perhaps the first week of April if he’s chosen to work the Final Four games of the NCAA tournament.

It used to be that Hall, 54, worked another job, for a broadcast software company, but now, like many of his peers, he makes refereeing his full-time obligation because the money for officiating has gotten so much better.

Refs in the top college conferences generally make $2,000 per game plus first-class airfare. “Now a lot of guys are like me–working very, very hard for five months and then being able to take it easy the rest of the year,” Hall says.
