On March 2, Denver welcomed another pizza spot to the downtown market, My Pizza Peel. And the shop, which gave away 1,250 free slices on opening day, has garnered a healthy following.

When I stopped in last week, the eatery was jammed. A quick survey of the packed tables indicated that the New York-style pies and calzones were the draw–as opposed to the pasta dishes–so I ordered accordingly.

Although my two slices were cheesy and chewy, and perfectly foldable, I wished they spent a couple more minutes in the oven. The verdict: the Peel’s pizza isn’t quite as addictive and authentic as nearby Anthony’s Pizza, but it’s more than adequate in a pinch.
