As cameras for his television show rolled, Duane “Dog” Chapman and his occasional local sidekick, bail bondsman Bobby Browne, faced gunfire recently as they chased after 35-year-old Hoang Nguyen, an alleged bail jumper. Some of the bounty hunters on the crew, armed with guns that shoot pepper spray pellets, returned fire, as Nguyen sped off on what Brown describes as a “red crotch rocket.” Nobody was injured and hours later–yesterday before dawn–Chapman and Brown caught up with Nguyen, who was one of Brown’s clients, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. The story made its rounds yesterday on myriad entertainment-focused websites, such as TMZ. Meanwhile, Westword media critic, Michael Roberts points out that Gazette readers were split on the story’s news value: Some thought the story was idiotic while others can’t seem to get enough of Dog, who has stirred things up here in his former home state before and seems to have a solid grip on audiences with his A&E reality show after apologizing for racist remarks more than a year ago.
