sandraThere’s something strikingly familiar about Sandra Dallas’ newest novel, Prayers for Sale. Sure, the story is set in a fictional Colorado town in the 1930s. But its location, the hamlet of Middle Swan, bears an uncanny resemblance to Breckenridge, and the book’s characters, struggling through the Depression, speak to today’s realities. Tonight, when Dallas reads from her book at the Tattered Cover Colfax Avenue, she will have the chance to further expand on these similarities, explaining her characters, 86- and 17-year-old women who form an unlikely friendship. Readers will have an opportunity to question the award-winning novelist about her writing strategies and inspirations, as well as ask about her life and career. Dallas, a long-time Denver resident, worked for 25 years as the Rocky Mountain bureau chief for Business Week magazine before taking on fiction. 7:30 p.m., Tattered Cover Colfax, 2526 E.
