From the perspective of the rest of the nation, the grass is definitely greener in Denver (even if there are water restrictions in the summer). U-Haul International Incorporated, known for renting those orange-and-white trucks and trailers to self-movers, ranks Denver fifth in its 2008 list of “Top 50 U.S. Destination Cities,” up from ninth the year before, reports the Denver Business Journal. Although the nation struggles with high unemployment, meaning many people are staying put, “buzzing” Denver and its suburbs “bucked that trend,” writes Forbes in a report that adds weight to U-Haul’s findings. Forbes notes the population increased by 2.17 percent last year, building on a similar gain in the prior year. An October 2008 survey by the Pew Research Center concluded that Denver is the most popular city in America because of its relaxed culture, vibrant nightlife, and business opportunities. Not only is Denver fun, it is mindful not to waste too much, ranking sixth in terms of the least wasteful cities in the country, according to Nalgene.
