ken_buck1Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck has set up a website announcing his 2010 campaign for U.S. Senate. An anonymous registrant flipped the site on Saturday in the wake of Buck’s victory in prosecuting Allen Andrade on murder and hate-crime charges in the death of transgender Angie Zapata, according to The Colorado Independent.

Although Buck denied early reports that he was running (via the Greeley Tribune), Politico subsequently writes that Buck, a Republican known for his strident crackdowns against illegal immigration, is “officially running” in hopes of facing political newbie Michael Bennet, the former Denver Public Schools czar who was appointed senator by fellow Democrat Governor Bill Ritter after Ken Salazar became secretary of the U.S. Interior Department.

Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier is also running a campaign as “all eyes” are now on former Congressman Bob Beauprez, a well-known Republican who is also rumored to vie for the Senate seat.

Last week, Public Policy Polling released data showing that 41 percent of potential voters disapprove of Bennet’s performance so far and just 34 approve.
