VON, a.k.a. the Voice of Network Convergence, reports that Qwest Communications is shedding 361 jobs by closing down three customer call centers, including one in the Denver area. Writes VON, “Twitter appears to be the reason why.” (Twitter, for the uninitiated, is a micro-blogging service that allows users to send brief messages to followers via computers, cell phones, and other electronic gadgets, and it’s all the rage on the social networking front.) Mike Welk, a Denver real estate broker, tells 7News that he’s using Twitter to reach clients and brags that he’s now able to react to offers at “the speed of light.” The Greeley Tribune’s Sharon Dunn is also a quick draw, Twittering the murder trial of Angie Zapata. Even a former Denver Broncos quarterback is floating in the Twitterscape, writes Fanhouse, noting that so-called “fameball” Julia Allison Twittered that Jay Cutler liked her headband while out partying in Chicago. And if it’s not Twitter that’s generating headlines, it’s Facebook. Colorado House Speaker Terrance Carroll used his Facebook page to dispel rumors that he wanted outgoing Senate President Peter Groff’s job, according to The Colorado Independent.
