The Denver Broncos are reportedly close to completing a deal that will bring former star University of Colorado linebacker Matt Russell to the team’s scouting corps.

The 35-year-old Russell, according to an unnamed National Football League source cited by The Denver Post, would leave his position as a national scout for the Philadelphia Eagles to lead the Broncos’ college scouting efforts. Russell previously scouted for the New England Patriots and is said to have convinced coach Bill Belichick to draft quarterback Matt Cassel.
