The Denver Broncos surprised everybody when they selected running back Knowshon Moreno on Saturday during the NFL Draft. Moreno was the Broncos’ first selection in a draft that gave them the 12th slot and the 18th, which came via the Chicago Bears as part of the trade for quarterback Jay Cutler. Their second choice was defensive end Robert Ayers–the only defensive line player selected.

In all, the Broncos took six offensive players and four defensive players, according to the NFL, which is a bit confusing considering the woeful performance of the team’s defensive line last year, writes The Denver Post. The selections left others around the country scratching their heads, with some, like AOL.com’s NFL Fanhouse, predicting a long, unproductive season for the Broncos.

The team will have to play Colorado State University workhorse running back Gartrell Johnson twice next season; he was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round, according to the Fort Collins Coloradoan.
