curiousQuiara Alegria Hudes’ play 26 Miles is in phase two of what you might call a highly sophisticated grooming process. The story, which opened last weekend at the Curious Theatre, is about a Cuban mother and her estranged half-Jewish daughter on a spontaneous road trip. Before its Denver stop, the show opened in Atlanta, and it will travel to Coral Gables, Florida, next. At each step along the way Hudes, a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright, takes notes. She uses these observations to further craft her piece so that at the end of its three-city cycle, 26 Miles will be a hot commodity on the national theater scene. Denverites have a chance to see this work while it’s still in the experimental phase. Through June 20, Thu-Sat 8 p.m.; Sun 2 p.m. Curious Theatre, 1080 Acoma St.; 303-623-0524; $16-$32
