I blame a friend for my addiction to Béquet gourmet caramels. Ever since she told me I had to try them, I haven’t been able to shop at Whole Foods without grabbing a fistful from the glass jars in the stores’ pastry section.

There are 10 varieties in all (though not all are available at Whole Foods), but my go-to is Celtic sea salt. The Montana-made treat tastes of rich, chewy, vanilla-butter caramel with a slight punch of crunchy salt. That unexpected ingredient is the key to this goodie: It provides both the bite and the salinity to balance out the a sweetness that might otherwise be overpowering.
