It’s day nine on the official 5280.com Fire Clint Hurdle Countdown, and the momentum to axe the beleaguered coach is gaining. The Bleacher Report says several players are speculating that Hurdle will be gone today–yes, today–following the recent 8-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. That puts the Rockies at 18-28, without much hope of improving.

The Denver Post, though, makes a pitch for Hurdle, saying it’s “unfair” to blame him for the team’s performance, citing the poor play of the bullpen, the starting pitching, and the inconsistent batting of third baseman Garrett Atkins and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Nothing personal Posties, but at 5280 we hold Hurdle accountable for his team’s performance.
