Animal activists have purchased 66 dogs from a Colorado breeder at an auction in Missouri and found them homes or space in rescue shelters that provide veterinary care so they can be adopted. Mike Stabler, executive director of the nonprofit Rocky Mountain Animal Defense, tells The Denver Post that more than 100 donors provided $16,000 to save the dogs, which were put on the auction block by Prairie Bark Kennels. Prairie Bark, based in Denver, stated on its website that “we are relocating soon and can’t take our dogs with us,” according to CBS4. Kent Sarff of RMAD claims that the dogs “spent their lives in a cage” (via 9News). “The good news is [the dogs] come around, just being in a family, experiencing human touch,” he adds. “They don’t have to live their lives forever in a wire cage. It’s a good story for everyone.”
