Severe Weather Watch: Tornados and Lightning

By |

At least five funnel clouds were spotted yesterday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, in Aurora, Lafayette, Byers, Bennett, and Deer Trail. But the worst was near Aurora, where a twister with winds of roughly 110 miles per hour struck Southlands mall, causing thousands of dollars in damage to stores and vehicles, writes The Denver Post. A man was reportedly injured in the nearby neighborhood, and the mall suffered “significant” damage, says Aurora’s fire battalion chief, and is closed today.

Severe weather month has arrived in Colorado, and in addition to the weekend’s tornados a Greeley man died after being struck by lightning, according to 11 News in Colorado Springs. Several storms moved into downtown Denver yesterday, dropping hail the size of a quarter, 7News reports, noting a greater chance for showers and thunderstorms today.
