The Colorado Rockies are 2-1 since new skipper Jim Tracy has taken over for Clint Hurdle, the team’s seven-year coach, who was fired last Friday. The same issues that plagued the Hurdle-led Rockies this season–inconsistent starting, bullpen pitching, and spotty offense–led to Tracy’s first loss as coach yesterday. The Rockies were defeated by the San Diego Padres 5-2, falling to 20-29 as they head into an 11-game road trip starting tonight (at the Houston Astros, 6:05 p.m., Fox Sports Net).

The Denver Post notes that pitcher Jorge De La Rosa’s record fell to 0-6 as a starter, and the team is 2-8 in the 10 games he’s started this season. Tracy can’t do much beyond putting a good lineup out there and letting them do their jobs, writes fan blog Purple Row.

If that doesn’t work, we all may be yearning for ol’ Hurdle to return, even though many of us–5280 included–predicted the likable but mediocre coach would be fired.
