It’s been an odd trip so far for the Rockies, who are playing the Mets in New York. After Monday night’s loss, in one of the strangest press conferences in recent memory, Mets GM Omar Minaya accused a reporter of writing stories that led to the firing of a Mets executive (via New York Daily News). Then on Tuesday, the Rockies couldn’t buy a run and lost 4-0, which shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, really. According to The Denver Post, the Rockies have dropped the last 20 of 22 games in any stadium other than Coors Field. Manager Jim Tracy tinkered with the lineup prior to the game, moving slumping second baseman Clint Barmes to eighth in the batting order and putting outfielder Seth Smith in the two spot (via the Rocky Mountain Independent). Prior to the game, Tracy told MLB.com that he has faith in Ubaldo Jimenez and Franklin Morales, the two young pitchers who lost the game for the Rockies on Monday night. The most heat from Tuesday night came from Tracy, when home plate umpire Larry Vanover made a terrible call in the eighth inning, ruling base runner Luis Castillo safe even though Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta (pictured) clearly tagged him out more than a foot before he touched the plate (via InDenverTimes). Tracy immediately came out of the dugout and argued the call, earning his first ejection as the Rockies manager. The team, now 54-46 and just a half-game ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the wild-card chase, will try to right themselves against the Mets tonight at 5:10 p.m. on Fox Sports Net.
