There are big guys, and then there’s Fort Lupton’s Brian Shaw, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 390 pounds.
Shaw, 27, is angling for a run at the title of the World’s Strongest Man when the competition rolls around this September, according to The Denver Post. Shaw, a former college basketball player at Black Hills State in South Dakota, seems to have a body made for strong-man competitions, with size-16 feet and monstrous hands. He finished third in a recent Strongest Man on Earth competition in Canada and seems poised to climb the international ranks of burly-ass tough guys.

Strong-man competitions don’t get much mainstream coverage here in the States, but as a boy in Iceland, I grew up idolizing Icelandic strongmen who had long dominated the World’s Strongest Man competitions, like Jon Pall Sigmarsson and Magnus ver Magnusson. I’m behind Shaw in his quest for world strong-man domination, but he has a lot to live up to when it comes to the Icelanders.
