It’s been nearly a month since pop megastar Michael Jackson died unexpectedly at the age of 50. Now some of the last footage of Jackson, including rehearsals for a series of concerts in London, is part of a film to be co-produced by AEG, an entertainment company owned by Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz. And Sony Corp. is willing to pay at least $50 million for the distribution rights, writes the Denver Business Journal.

The footage, reports Variety, was meant to play in 3-D during the “This Is It” series of shows in London, but it is unclear whether the film, shot by “High School Musical” director Kenny Ortega, will be 3-D. The film could be released later this year, and though the asking price is high, the footage is unique and could be a hit.

That might solve some of AEG’s financial woes resulting from the cancellation of the London concerts. Westword recently pointed out that AEG was unable to insure at least half the sold-out London dates. Still, as Ron Kaye L.A. sees it, Anschutz and AEG will have a lot to profit from in MJ’s death.
