Pet Airways, a Florida-based airline that allows pets—and only pets (no people)—to ride in the cabin, landed amid barking and meowing for the first time yesterday in Colorado, ending a dilemma for owners who don’t want their pets to travel in a plane’s cargo area. If you can get past the airline’s promotional pun that it carries “pawsengers” to and from the Denver area (via the airport in Broomfield) as well as New York, Washington, Chicago, and Los Angeles (part of a growing network of cities), this could be the travel solution for your pooch or kitty.

As Dan Wiesel, president/CEO of Pet Airways, says in a statement (via the Denver Business Journal), “The experience [of flying in the cargo hold] is frightening to the pets, and can cause severe emotional and physical harm, even death.” One-way fares range from $149 to $299. Despite the high price, the airline’s Beech 1900 twin-engine planes are booked solid for the next two months, according to The Denver Post.

The airline’s amenities include a flight attendant who checks on the animals and hands out snacks during the flight (more than what I got on a recent flight on a popular commercial airline).
