m_072f8d16234342de9abaf2735c8a33161First there was Kristen Diane Parker, a former Rose Medical Center surgical technician who stole painkillers in a scam that caused a still-growing number of patients to be infected with hepatitis C. Then came nurse Marguerite Irene Furgerson at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado, accused of forging prescriptions to get drugs for her own use. Now add former St. Anthony Central Hospital nurse Jillian Fischer, who allegedly stole drugs and had previously been fired from Swedish Medical Center, according to 9News in a report that raises questions about background checks for medical workers. Like Fischer, Parker (pictured) got work at several hospitals, including Audubon Surgery Center in Colorado Springs, after leaving Rose. She was indicted on Friday by a federal grand jury on 42 criminal counts, including 21 counts of tampering with a consumer product and 21 counts of wrongfully obtaining a controlled substance, writes the Denver Business Journal, which notes that Parker is being held in jail without bond. The total number of hepatitis cases linked to Parker, who has hepatitis C, stands at 15, according to News Channel 13 in Colorado Springs.
