marshall-brandon1Disgruntled Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall said yesterday that not only will he report to training camp on time later this month, he’ll probably be one of the first people there.

In an interview with the NFL Network (watch the video here), Marshall calmed concerns for many Denverites, saying he won’t hold out on training camp despite demanding that the team trade him earlier this year.

The Denver Post points out that Marshall is a prolific pass catcher—but he’s got a prolific rap sheet to match, stacked with DUI and assault charges, and accusations of domestic violence. He carries a lot of baggage off the field, so he doesn’t have as much leverage as those around him might suggest.

The Post also notes that if Marshall were to skip out on training camp, he could be fined $15,888 per day. Marshall tells the NFL Network that he’s got a wedding to plan and can’t afford fines like that.

With or without Marshall, the Broncos have a tough schedule and face an uphill battle. Most football prognosticators aren’t giving them a chance, but don’t tell that to former Broncos receiver Rod Smith. He told the NFL Network earlier this week that the Broncos will sneak up on us and play a lot better than everyone’s giving them credit for. Here’s to hoping he’s right.
