markey-betsyIf you haven’t yet seen the undercover videos by VeritasVisuals investigating ACORN, they’re pretty shocking. Filmmakers pose as a pimp and a prostitute who want to set up shop to raise money for a political campaign. They might even want to kill people. The reaction from Tresa Kaelke at the San Bernadino, California, office of ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) appears excited and willing to help the—even to kill if necessary. While Kaelke argues that is entirely misunderstood in the videos–humoring the couple because she thought it was a stunt—ACORN’s credibility is tanking, writes The Washington Post. The House voted yesterday to cut off federal funds to the nonprofit, which serves low- and moderate-income families and has reaped more than $53 million in federal assistance since 1994, reports Bloomberg News. Among the supporters of the de-funding proposal is Democratic Congresswoman Betsy Markey (pictured), according to the Fort Collins Coloradoan. She is joined by fellow Dems Ed Perlmutter and John Salazar, as well as Republicans Mike Coffman and Doug Lamborn (see the official vote). Only representatives Diana DeGette and Jared Polis, both Democrats, voted in favor of ACORN retaining the money.
