Consulting firm Accenture predicts about 52 percent of American consumers will shop today, up significantly from last year. But it isn’t clear whether the momentum will last. A big turnout might signal consumers’ desire for a deal rather than pent-up demand, The Washington Post points out. One trend: Shoppers are less likely to use a credit card, and many are turning to layaway in an effort to prevent rising interest rates from dampening their fun in 2010, reports 9News.
