Medical marijuanaJust in time for the ski season, officials in Breckenridge are putting the final touches on a new law that makes it legal for adults 21 and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana (via The Associated Press). But keep in mind that pot possession remains illegal under federal law, as well as under the Colorado Ski Safety Act. The subject of Colorado’s reefer madness has caught the attention of conservative Washington Post columnist George Will, who recently visited Colorado and wrote about the nation’s changing attitude toward the drug. Will points to plenty of gray areas in the state’s medical marijuana law, saying, “By mocking the idea of lawful behavior, legalization of medical marijuana may be more socially destructive than full legalization.” Meanwhile, Robert Weller, opining for the Snowmass Sun, finds it “funny that the safety of marijuana is still being debated since it has been around for thousands of years. But it seems that no matter how much voters legalize it or how many judges throw restrictions out, no one knows when it will really be legal.”
