“Since its opening, the Crossroads has hosted poetry, music, theater, film, dance, visual art, storytelling, lectures, and community meetings for all cultures in the city,” owner/operator Kurt Lewis writes in a statement (via the Denver Business Journal), noting his excitement that Denver will buy the struggling 100-seat Crossroads Theatre in Five Points for an undisclosed amount. “I am excited to see [the Division of Theatres and Arenas] take the baton, so that Crossroads can continue to provide an intimate, affordable venue for Denver’s artists and performers,” he adds. The division, which will take over as early as next month, will next announce public discussions on how to best use the space, which has hosted the 5 Points Jazz Festival, Denver Experimental Film Festival, and other events at 2590 Washington St. “Our agency’s mission is to provide cultural and public assembly facilities to Denver’s diverse communities,” says Jack Finlaw, director of Theatres and Arenas. “Adding Crossroads to the catalog of venues we manage on behalf of the city will greatly advance our goal of offering affordable spaces, and will enable us to foster a diversity of programming for residents and visitors to Denver.”
