The Colorado Avalanche continue to prove that their success this year is no fluke. They won again last night, demolishing the Edmonton Oilers 6-0 at the Pepsi Center. They’re on a four-game winning streak, matching the longest of the season, according to The Denver Post.

Matt Duchene keeps getting better, scoring two goals and adding an assist last night, in what’s turning out to be a great rookie campaign (via The Denver Daily News).

Colorado goalie Craig Anderson stopped 24 shots with relative ease, notes the Canadian Press, and he’s now set personal bests in starts, wins, and minutes. Although he’s had one of the more impressive seasons for American goalies, he wasn’t selected to play on the American Olympic team in Vancouver. He’ll take the time to rest, though, and hopefully come back strong for a stretch run into the playoffs.

Mile High Hockey calls last night’s game the most convincing win of the season for the Avs and praises the squad for not playing down to weaker opponents. The team is now comfortably ahead in the division standings, four points ahead of both the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, a record that also puts them at third overall in the Western Conference (via NHL.com).

Nobody expected the Avs to be leading the division by the end of the year, let alone at the end of January. Despite being dominated by young talent, this team could really make some noise in the playoffs this year.
