If flying hasn’t been difficult enough with increased security screenings and slightly higher fares as of the New Year, now you need to worry about the food. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has downgraded Denver’s LSG Sky Chefs—which prepares food for Delta, American, United, and other airlines—after an inspection that has prompted the company to fire its head chef and mount an aggressive clean-up. Inspectors found live and dead roaches “too numerous to count” in the kitchen, along with listeria bacteria (via the Associated Press). LSG is owned by Deutsche Lufthansa AG, the big German carrier, and its U.S. subsidiary provides food to airlines and kitchens around the country. In a press release, the company states: “Food safety and security is a constant focus for our organization. There is nothing more important to us than the quality of our products and the safety of our consumers. Therefore, we will continue to take aggressive corrective action to bring the Denver facility back into full FDA compliance.”
